Laplink Celebrates 37 Years and Extends Maker Mask Donations

37th Anniversary program donates portion of PCmover proceeds to fight COVID-19

May 12, 2020

Laplink® Software, Inc., the global leader in PC migration and creator of the only software of its kind recommended by Microsoft®, Intel® and all major PC manufacturers, today announced ongoing financial support for Maker Mask as part of Laplink’s 37th business anniversary. In place of a traditional celebration, Laplink is focusing on the efforts of communities that are fighting COVID-19 and shaping a world that is better prepared to contend with current and future virus threats and pandemics.

Last week, Laplink announced its donation of $10,000 to Maker Mask, a nonprofit, rapidly-growing grassroots community of nearly 10,000 members around the world, each operating 3D printers for small batch productions of respirator-style masks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to that initial donation, from May 11 through May 24, customers can use the code “LAPLINK37” when making a purchase on www.laplink.com to save 37% on all purchases, and Laplink will donate 10% of the proceeds to Maker Mask. Additionally, through June 30, Laplink will donate 50% of its PCmover Business Technician Licensing Program signup fee to Maker Mask.

“Because of my past history as a Microsoft executive, I’ve maintained a close relationship with many current and former Microsoft employees”

“Because of my past history as a Microsoft executive, I’ve maintained a close relationship with many current and former Microsoft employees,” explained Thomas Koll, CEO of Laplink. “One way I stay in touch is through the Microsoft Alumni Network. It was their support for Maker Mask that sparked my interest in this unique organization that is leveraging advanced technology to address a critical need.”

Few independent software companies have survived and thrived like Laplink over the past 37 years. Koll credits Laplink’s ongoing success with its unwavering focus on leveraging technology to lower the total cost of PC ownership.

“One reason we appreciate Maker Mask is that they innovate and rapidly evolve to achieve tangible results,” continued Koll. “At Laplink, we share that approach and commitment. We are obsessed with leveraging technology for ‘boring data transfer’ to deliver tangible benefits to our customers, whether consumer, SMB or enterprise. Our software provides measurable time savings and a great ROI, reducing the total cost of PC ownership. In tough economic times, that matters more than ever. Laplink isn’t delivering the same type of technology as Maker Mask, but lowering an organization’s costs does have a positive impact.”

Laplink is encouraging others to support Maker Mask, whether by participating in Laplink’s anniversary celebration or by directly donating at its GoFundMe page here.

According to Jonathan Roberts, leader of the Maker Mask Initiative, Laplink’s support will offset some of the costs of mask-making materials and other operational expenses as the nonprofit organization continues to support the Maker Mask network.

“I’ve known Laplink and Thomas for more than 30 years, going back to our early days at Microsoft and greatly appreciate his and Laplink’s support. The COVID-19 pandemic is an ‘all hands on deck’ crisis and Maker Mask is thankful for the help that Laplink is bringing to this part of the COVID-19 response,” said Roberts, who is also co-founder of nonprofit RPrime and a founding partner at Ignition Partners. “Their donation and ongoing support is very helpful as Maker Mask continues to focus on fulfilling its mission. We believe that it’s now more important than ever to build a global supply chain powered by community-based small batch production sites to ensure resiliency for times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.”
